DARBY MISSION

May Food Giveaway:

Your pasta sauce/spaghetti sauce/tomato gravy donations helped feed 234 people at the Darby Mission on Wednesday. The need is great. Thank you for your continued generosity to those in need in our wider community. You are a blessing.

If you need assistance getting your donations to the church, please contact Katie in the church office to arrange transport: holyapostlespa@gmail.com or 610-642-6617

Shelf-Stable Milk

Shelf-stable milk is just like regular milk you find in the refrigerated dairy case but, like the name suggests – it is shelf-stable – meaning it can sit on the shelf in your pantry for a much longer time before spoilage occurs, and then refrigerated when ready to use because cold milk always tastes best!

There are other suppliers, but Parmalat is most well known (to me, anyway).

We are looking to provide shelf-stable milk along with breakfast cereal and pop tarts for the June Food giveaway. You can find it in the coffee and creamer aisle of your grocery store.

If you would prefer to have us do the shopping for this item, you can contribute to the effort – just note the funds as being for “Outreach: Milk donation.” Each quart of shelf-stable milk is just under $3.00.

Looking Ahead

Project Share

LUNCHES

Our every-other-week Project Share lunches are the result of contributions from many folks to make each delivery a success.

For example, this week’s lunch was a result of contributions of time and effort from Linda Day, Nancy Haas, Linda Hunter, Judy Jervis, Margaret Paschal and Patty Wertz.

+ HOW YOU CAN HELP:

There is a SIGNUP GENIUS page for all the scheduled lunches through September. You can sign up at any time, or speak to Cassie or Katie about how you would like to contribute and we can sign up for you.

Here are the various things you can sign up for – and of course you’re welcome to sign up for one area, or multiple areas for any particular lunch:

  • Sandwiches for 40 – you can choose to make sandwiches, or you can opt to fund a Hoagie Box from Centrella’s. When you sign up, use the Notes field to indicate your plans.
    • Making sandwiches – our preferred provider of meat, cheese and bread is Centrella’s as they know exactly what is needed to complete the assignment, but you are welcome to get turkey, American cheese and bread from another source. Purchasing these items runs about $100.Or you can request that Outreach provide the materials and you just build the sandwiches and wrap them for transport. These sandwich bags, pictured below, are the best option for wrapping and delivery, but again you can use what you like:
    • Fund a Hoagie Box – For $100, Centrella’s will provide a hoagie box, which feeds 36, plus a tuna hoagie for 4 as a non-meat alternative.
  • Sweet Treats for 40 – there are two slots for each lunch. You may choose to make treats for 20, or sign up in both slots to make treats for everyone.
  • Apples or Oranges for 40 – there are two slots for fruit for each lunch as well. You may choose to provide fruit for 20, or sign up in both slots to provide it all.
  • Tea Bags – provide one box of tea bags
  • Coffee – sponsor 2 bags of Apostles Cup for the lunch ($30)
  • Cold Beverages – provide three gallons of Tea Cooler (iced tea/lemonade mix) from Swiss Farms, or 3 gallons of iced tea or lemonade from the vendor of your choice.
  • **NEW** Coordinator – This person will coordinate with those providing the elements of the lunch and arrange for transport down to Project Share location by 11:30 on the date of the lunch. The actual transport – picking up items from church, delivering, and return to church takes 30-40 minutes. If you are the coordinator, you can also request that items be dropped at your home for your convenience.

The dates for lunches with volunteer openings are:
May 30
June 13 & 27
July 11 & 25
August 8 & 22
September 5 & 19

How to participate: Please sign up for an hour or more at the CHA booths for both festivals via Good News Community Days SignUpGenius page. Or sign up at coffee hour. All you need to bring is your wonderful gift of gab for meeting new neighbors, answering questions and sharing personal experiences of our special church community. For questions, contact Katie

See You There!

+ **NEW** BOOKS WANTED

Your Good News team will be hosting a booth at this year’s Overbrook Park Community Day on Saturday, June 10, from 12pm-5pm and will be handing out information about Holy Apostles.

In addition, e are working on a collection of NEW children’s books (K-6) so the kids in attendance can choose a book or two for themselves. Pictured below are some donated items so far.

How can you help?

  • Donate a new children’s book to the cause. We have found excellent deals at both Scholastic.com and Costco, believe it or not! At either location you can get good prices on individual or boxed books. Boxed sets will be separated for distribution. And it’s no problem if we end up with duplicates!
  • Donate monies toward this effort: Book prices are running about $3-8 each or a boxed set for $20-25. Mark “Outreach: New Books”

Thank you for anything you care to contribute between now and June 2.
