Special Request: Aid for Asylum Seeking Refugees
We plan to continue to help meet the needs of refugee asylum seekers being bussed into our area.
We are looking for children’s clothes, sizes 5-9. There is also a need for backpacks or any kind of carry-on style luggage so that the refugees can carry their newly acquired items with them. Gently used as well as new items will be gratefully accepted!
You can help by:
- purchasing items and dropping them off on the Outreach shelves in the narthex closet
- purchasing items and shipping them directly to the church – please remember to mark your packages “Attention: Outreach”
- making a donation to Outreach – marking “Refugees” in the memo line and it will be used to purchase specifically requested items for this project.
We will be collecting items for at least the next month, and will continue as long as busloads of folks in need are arriving. Items will be delivered to or picked up by Gladwyne Presbyterian on a weekly basis to insure getting the donated items to those in need as quickly as possible. Questions? Contact Katie
DARBY MISSION
December Food Giveaway:
THANK YOU for your continued generosity! For 2023, we have developed a quarterly schedule of needs for the Food Pantry. Additional items may be added from time to time, but we hope that knowing a schedule of needs ahead of time will help you take advantage of sales or bulk purchase opportunities.
You can leave your donations:
- on the Outreach shelves in the narthex closet
- in the CANestoga wagon in the office hallway
- ship them directly to the church Attn: Outreach
If you need assistance getting your donations to the church, please contact Katie in the church office to arrange transport: holyapostlespa@gmail.com or 610-642-6617
The Mission served 165 people in December. They could have fed more people but ran out of food and gift cards. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!

+ WINTER BOOK STUDY
Mark your calendar for our winter book study of A Post-COVID Catechesis by Victor Lee Austin. We will be meeting in the Memorial Room on NEXT Sunday, January 22 and Sunday, February 5 to delve into this book. It’s just 67 pages long, but full of insights. Pick up a copy from your favorite bookseller, or get one from Katie in the office or during coffee hour.
+ HELP NEEDED – LOADING CANS – SUNDAY, JANUARY 15
We could use some assistance following the 10AM service this week moving the donated cans of fruits and veggies from the Outreach shelves in the narthex closet out to Cassie’s car. We will be collecting donations through Tuesday (1/17) but it would be a help to get the majority moved while there are extra hands to facilitate the process!
+ 2022 GIVING STATEMENTS
If you contributed to CHA in 2022 you should have received your giving statement in the email account we have on record. Monies given to Church of the Holy Apostles are tax deductible. If you did not receive your giving statement or you have any questions, please contact: JT Wertz – jtwertz@comcast.net
+ REMINDER – PLUMBING WORK – MONDAY, JANUARY 16
On MLK Day, the plumber will be on site to work on a number of different projects. This requires that the water be turned off to the entire building. The office will be closed. Please do not make plans to visit the building that day.
+ POCKETS OF HOPE
Pockets of Hope is a non-profit organization providing free mastectomy sweatshirts for after surgery. They will be using the Parish Hall again on Saturday, January 21, from
9am to 12 pm for a time of group sewing. If you know how to sew and are interested in helping sew pockets into zip-up hoodies for women recovering from their mastectomy surgery, come join in! Just bring your sewing machine. Check out @_pocketsofhope on Instagram. Questions? kiersten.wertz@gmail.com
+ SOUP MAKERS NEEDDED!
We are in need of 3-4 volunteers to make soup for the Annual Meeting luncheon. If you are interested in sharing your culinary talents, please contact Suzanne Lees: suzannelees@yahoo.com or 610-220-7120.

+ ANNUAL MEETING & LUNCHEON – JANUARY 29 @ 11:30AM
Please mark your calendar now so you don’t miss this important event in our church year. A delicious luncheon will be served and we will be reviewing 2022, making plans for 2023 and voting on the 2023 operational budget and new vestry members. Child care will be available on site in the Godly Playroom.
+ 2023 VESTRY NOMINEES
At the annual meeting we will be electing individuals to serve in the Vestry, filling vacancies created by those whose three-year term is coming to an end. Several individuals have nominated themselves already and we ask you to please pray for them and those who are still considering service on the Vestry:
- Nancy Haas
- Drew Meiers
- Joe Zorc
It is not too late to nominate yourself to be considered for service on the Vestry. Please contact one of the following individuals right away to get started with your candidacy:
- Father James – james.r.stambaugh@gmail.com
- Jean Gentile, Senior Warden – jean@thegentiles.com
- Lyn DeSilets, Clerk of the Vestry – lyn.desilets@villanova.edu
1) Mark the date on your calendar so you don’t miss it!
2) We’ll move to the Parish Hall as soon as the 10am service has concluded. If you’re coming from home – please plan to arrive by 11:15am.
3) In-person attendance is very important. However, we are aware that for some folks, it’s just not possible to be on site. If you are unable to attend due to illness, mobility issues, or proximity, please contact the Parish office as soon as possible so we can see about making arrangements for you to join us via Zoom.
4) Begin now to pray for the candidates for Vestry for 2023 (listed above).
5) Pray for the current Vestry as they prepare their reports and plans for CHA for the coming year.
6) If you have not yet made your 2023 pledge – please prayerfully consider doing so before the meeting date. You can use the Giving area of Realm, get a pledge card from the narthex table, or contact the office to request that a pledge card be sent to you.
7) Contact Suzanne Lees – suzannelees@yahoo.com or 610-220-7120 to offer assistance in preparing items for the luncheon, or to offer your services for setup or cleanup!
8) Use the card and envelope included in the newsletter to share your vision, wishes and dreams for ministry at Church of the Holy Apostles for 2023 and beyond. No thought is too outlandish. Don’t be held back by concerns of money or people or other resources. Dream BIG! You can make your suggestions anonymously if you prefer. Drop your card or note in the offering plate, in the senior warden’s mailbox in the office (top left of the mailbox wall), or drop it in the post. Or bring it to the meeting! Additional cards are available on the table in the narthex.
9) Some of our ministries submitted their annual summary reports in time for publication in the January edition of The Apostle newsletter. Read about what’s been happening in the Good News, Property, Tech and Outreach ministries throughout 2022. Use that information to help fuel your ideas for the future of CHA.
10) Prayerfully consider your role in the coming year. There are many ways to serve: * Greeter * Reader * Intercessor * Choir * Children’s Ministry * Youth Ministry * Fellowship * Good News/Evangelism * Tech * Event Photographer * Outreach * Vestry * Property * …or using any other talent you wish to share with your church family!
