DARBY MISSION

November Collection items:
For Thanksgiving, we have been tasked with providing enough celebration cake kits so that each family served by the Food Giveaway can have a celebration dessert of their own for the holiday. We are looking to gather at least 50 complete kits.
WE HAVE ONE MORE WEEK to collect our items. As of this writing, we have 15 kits.
You can choose to provide a complete cake kit or – any part of a kit – and then we’ll assemble on Sunday, November 13th during coffee hour following the 10AM service. Here is a link to the TikTok video that inspired Suzanne Lees to share this idea!
To create our 50 kits, we need:
- 50 cake mix
- 50 cake frosting
- 50 12-ounce can of lemon-lime soda (replaces eggs and oil)
- 50 sprinkles
- 50 homemade cards **see below
- 50 single-use 13” x 9” baking pan
- 50 10x13x5 handled paper bags
If we get extras, that’s good too! There’s always a reason to celebrate!

KIDS – we need your help with this project!
We are looking to gather 50 homemade Thanksgiving cards to put in our Thanksgiving cake kits. We would like our children to create Thanksgiving cards to be included with each package. Have them draw Thanksgiving themed pictures – turkeys, pilgrims, horn of plenty, etc. – and add wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving. They can also choose to share what they are thankful for this year. We will need cards for 50 kits so making multiple cards would be great! Completed cards are needed by Sunday, November 13th.
Project Share
Bi-Monthly Dinners
We are looking for volunteers to help with the November 22 dinner delivery. What’s needed:
- Apples for 20
- Sweet treat – brownies, cookies and cupcakes are favorites, but you do you.
- Coffee donation – pay for a bag of Apostle’s Cup to be delivered with the meal.
- Cold beverages – three gallons of Tea Cooler from Swiss Farms, or Iced Tea/Lemonade from a store of your choosing.
Food needs to be ready in time for delivery on Tuesdays at 3:30pm. Entrées should be fully cooked, but they do not have to be hot at time of pickup (just not frozen). You do not have to make delivery yourself. Someone from the Outreach team can arrange to pick up the food and deliver to Project Share.
If you are unable to help with the November 22nd meal, there are other openings in the schedule, which runs through December 20th. You can see what’s needed on our SignUpGenius page, or talk to Cassie or Katie to offer assistance.
Advent Bags
THANK YOU to all who have begun collecting items for this year’s Advent Bags. We are doing well on most of the personal care items. We need a big push for:
- Fanny packs
- Hand Warmers
- Foot Warmers
- Men’s regular underwear in sizes Large and Extra Large
- Women’s regular underwear in sizes 7 to 10
We are collecting items from now through mid-November and we will be filling the bags on November 20 following the 10AM service. Fr. James will ask God’s blessing on the Advent bags during services on November 27 and they will be distributed that week.
If you are purchasing items online you can choose to ship items to the church. Please mark the package as Attention: Outreach. Thanks!

+ STEWARDSHIP SEASON 2022 – LIVES OF THANKSGIVING
From Fr. James’ Stewardship Season letter: “Between now and Thanksgiving Day, spend intentional time examining all the things in your life for which you are grateful to God, along with those things you should be grateful for, even if you aren’t always. Recommit yourself to a more faithful love. Find ways in your daily life to take God at God’s word, to stand on the promises that God has made to you.”

Please make your pledge by November 20th using a pledge card from your newsletter envelope or the narthex table, or pledge using Realm: https://onrealm.org/holyapostlespa/AddPledge/generalfund

+ A WORD FROM OUR GUEST CLERGY OF THE WEEK
The Rev. David Robert Green writes:
I was raised at St. Mark’s, Johnstown PA, Diocese of Pittsburgh, in the 1960s. I graduated from Clarion University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in theatre and music. I graduated from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (in the English Evangelical tradition at a time when “Episcopal” was still in the school’s name) in Ambridge, PA with an M.Div. I graduated with a D. Min. in Spiritual Direction from Graduate Theological Foundation in 2000. I served for 31 years in four dioceses, including S. Ohio, West Virginia, Easton and Bethlehem. I have been on staff at Christ Church, Pottstown as Priest Associate for the past year.
My wife, Jeni, and I have been married for 42 years and have three children, six grandchildren, two dogs and two cats.
I love preaching, teaching and sharing spiritual direction. My great passion is playing the piano and composing. I have been a professional Santa Claus for over 10 years, and consider it to be an important part of my ministry.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve.

+ DO YOU GET YOUR GROCERIES DELIVERED? DO YOU HAVE A STOCKPILE OF BAGS?
If you are enjoying home delivery of your groceries these days and have acquired a pile of handled paper bags that you can’t use, please consider donating them to our Outreach program. We can use these bags for multiple projects throughout the year, and for our purposes, we never can have enough. If you have bags to donate, you can drop them off in the back pews of the church or contact Katie to arrange to have them picked up from your home: katie@thegentiles.com or 484-269-2170.
+ DO YOU NEED HELP WITH REALM?
Thanks to those who have signed up recently. Our goal is to have 100% participation on Realm by the end of this year. Take advantage of Jean’s technical brilliance and get your Realm adventure started!
Jean will be available weekly after the 9AM service until about 9:50, and again during coffee hour following the 10AM service. He can use his iPad to get you signed up, or you can bring your phone or laptop to him to get assistance.

+ CLEANING THE EVENT TENT
Prior to dismantling and storing the event tent, it needs a good cleaning. If you would like to help with this task, please plan to meet on the front lawn at 9am Saturday, November 12th. Jean could use another 1-2 folks to help with this task. Once the tent is clean and dry we will be looking to disassemble it and move it to storage following services on November 20. Assistance will be needed for that task as well.
+ STORAGE SHELF ASSEMBLY, ATTIC REORGANIZATION
Tent cleaning not your thing? No worries – we have other ways you can help! We have received delivery on two sets of storage shelving. One set has been placed in the closet off of the narthex for collection of Outreach donations. The pieces of the second set are currently in the choir room. These shelves need to be assembled and put in the attic, and the items in the attic need labeling and rearranging. If organization is one of your gifts, please join us on Saturday, November 12th, starting at 9am.
+ MAY WE PRAY FOR YOU?
Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2
The Parish Prayer list is included in the monthly newsletter that is sent through the mail. Additional copies are also available on the table in the narthex and on our website. To add your prayer needs to the list, you can contact Fr. James, Nancy Haas, or use the form on our website.
