DARBY MISSION

July Food Giveaway:
This month we provided: 86 boxes of Pop Tarts and other breakfast bars; 2 cans of condensed milk, 2 boxes of Jell-o; and 5 jars of spaghetti sauce. Thanks for your generosity which helped provide food for 164 people this month!

Birthday Blessing Boxes:
We’ve had a wonderful response to the Birthday Blessing Boxes. Thanks again to Suzanne Lees for letting us know about this great idea! We hope to provide 5 kits per month along with our food item of the month. If you haven’t heard of this – you can view the original TikTok posting that explains it all.

Essentially, the idea is to provide an all-in-one kit so that a child might have a birthday cake who would otherwise go without on their special day. Each kit should include: cake mix, cake frosting, lemon-lime soda (replaces the eggs and oil), candles, sprinkles, a card, and all placed in a single-use baking pan.

Summer Camp:
Thank you to the person or persons who made a generous donation to the summer camp program! A check for $400 was delivered to Rev. Doris just in time to insure that they would be able to continue to feed the children at camp for the final week. It was a timely blessing and all involved are most grateful!

We will be providing weekly lunches of tomato pies, cold drinks and snacks. We will gratefully accept your monetary donations towards defraying these costs. You can place a check in the offering plate, mail a check to the church, or donate online using the GIVE button on our home page. On your check write: Outreach/Project Share in the memo line. If giving online, scroll down and add Outreach/Project Share to the memo field provided. Thank you for your generosity!

+ 10AM SERVICE THIS WEEK IN THE PARISH HALL
Due to the predicted high temperatures this weekend, the 10AM service this week will again be held in the air-conditioned comfort of the Parish Hall. If you can come a few minutes early to help set up chairs, or stay a few minutes after to put them away your assistance would be greatly appreciated. The post-service coffee hour will be held in the Parish Hall as well.

+ DARBY MISSION GARDEN UPDATE and a CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

The garden is flourishing and beautiful. It is amazing how much this little plot of land will produce this summer. A few photos – Two of the garden, including the herb wall. Wyatt with the very first harvest. One of the produce drawer that is now overflowing! Still mostly cucumbers, peppers looking good and the heirloom tomatoes are green and doing well.

With any project one encounters barriers. One variety of tomato is combating bottom rot. And now we must ask for some dedicated volunteers as the garden has come up against a literal barrier – that is the chain link fence in the back of the photo. It is no longer possible to maintain and water the garden from the empty lot behind the house. The project would benefit from two or three volunteers who would have a key to the mission house and could visit the garden site once a week for the next 6-8 weeks.

Doris is there every Thursday and Wyatt will continue to go at least once a week as well. Rainy days can be skipped!

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Wyatt Delevan at jwdelevan@gmail.com for more details so we can present Doris with a plan to continue to care for the harvest.

Thank you for the on-going support!

+ AUGUST NEWSLETTER MAILING
If you would like to help prepare the August newsletter mailing, meet us in the Memorial Room on Thursday, July 28th at 1:00pm for folding, stuffing, stamping and laughter. Our regular team consists of Pat Dyer, Pat Smyth and Patty Wertz – but folks with names not derived from “Patricia” are welcome as well!

+ MAY WE PRAY FOR YOU?
The principal kinds of prayer are adoration, praise, thanksgiving, penitence, oblation, intercession, and petition. (BCP p.856)

The Parish Prayer list is included in the monthly newsletter that is sent through the mail. Additional copies are also available on the table in the narthex and on our website. To add your prayer needs to the list, you can contact Fr. James, Nancy Haas, or use the form on our website.

  • Drew Meiers has shared that his mom, Dorothy, has been diagnosed with acute leukemia and he is now making end of life arrangements for her. Please remember the family in your daily prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
  • Please pray for Rev. Doris who is experiencing increased pain in her hip which makes getting around difficult. This is a chronic issue but has flared up over the last few weeks, making the use of a cane a requirement.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,
so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.
