DARBY MISSION
July Food Giveaway

If you are able to donate to this month’s breakfast bars & Pop-Tarts drive please bring your donations to the no later than Tuesday, July 19 for distribution the next day. The mission is feeding an average of 150 people every month. You contributions make a difference! So far we have collected 59 boxes (and 5 jars of spaghetti sauce – because there’s always some spaghetti sauce in the mix!).
Birthday Blessing Boxes:
On a monthly basis, we would like to include, along with our “standard” donations to the Food Giveaway, ‘ready-to-go’ Birthday Blessings. This is a package made up of cake mix, cake frosting, lemon lime soda (replaces the eggs and oil), candles, sprinkles and a card. We are hoping to have about 5 per month to give to Rev. Doris to hand out to folks celebrating during that month. This idea came to us via Suzanne Lees who spotted this TikTok posting that explains it all.
Summer Camps
To assist with summer camp projects, we are looking to provide hula hoops, basketballs and soccer balls and arts & crafts project supplies. You can donate specific items, or make a financial donation to the Darby Mission.
There is also a need for spray deodorant for the 4th-6th grade crowd.
To donate items, bring them by the church no later than Tuesday, July 19th. You can leave items by the CAN-estoga wagon on Sundays, in the back pews of the church, or leave with Katie in the church office.
For financial contributions, place a check in the offering plate, mail a check to the church, or donate online using the GIVE button on our home page. On your check write: Outreach/Darby Mission Camps in the memo line. If giving online, scroll down and add Outreach/Darby Mission Camps to the memo field provided.

We will be providing weekly lunches of tomato pies, cold drinks and snacks. We will gratefully accept your monetary donations towards defraying these costs. You can place a check in the offering plate, mail a check to the church, or donate online using the GIVE button on our home page. On your check write: Outreach/Project Share in the memo line. If giving online, scroll down and add Outreach/Project Share to the memo field provided. Thank you for your generosity!

+ 10AM Service this week in Parish Hall
Due to the predicted high temperatures this weekend, the 10AM service this week will be held in the air-conditioned comfort of the Parish Hall. If you can come a few minutes early to help set up chairs, or stay a few minutes after to put them away your assistance would be greatly appreciated. The post-service coffee hour will be held in the Parish Hall as well.
+ BAPTISM
Join us at the 10AM service next Sunday, July 24 as we celebrate the Holy Baptism of Caroline McGhee. The McGhee family are regulars at our 9AM Family Service of Jesus & Donuts. If you haven’t yet met Jason & Laura and their delightful daughters Anna, Margaret and Caroline, this is a great opportunity to welcome them to the Holy Apostles family!
Would you like to be baptized? Let Fr. James know! Baptisms are one of his favorite things to do!

+ AUGUST NEWSLETTER CONTENT
Have something you’d like to contribute to the August Newsletter – an article, poem, announcement, “Where in the World” photo with your CHA magnet, etc.? Please send your submission to the office no later than Monday, July 25 for inclusion in this month’s edition of The Apostle.
+ AUGUST NEWSLETTER MAILING
If you would like to help prepare the August newsletter mailing, meet us in the Memorial Room on Thursday, July 28th at 1:00pm for folding, stuffing, stamping and laughter. Our regular team consists of Pat Dyer, Pat Smyth and Patty Wertz – but folks with names not derived from “Patricia” are welcome as well!
+ HAPPY HOUR FELLOWSHIP
The next Happy Hour Fellowship on the Lawn is scheduled for Friday, July 29, beginning at 6pm. Bring beverages and snacks for yourself, or extra to share, and spend some time with friends! Dogs on leashes are welcome! See you there…

+ MAY WE PRAY FOR YOU?
The principal kinds of prayer are adoration, praise, thanksgiving, penitence, oblation, intercession, and petition. (BCP p.856)
The Parish Prayer list is included in the monthly newsletter that is sent through the mail. Additional copies are also available on the table in the narthex and on our website. To add your prayer needs to the list, you can contact Fr. James, Nancy Haas, or use the form on our website.
- Paul Emmons, our long-time organist at Holy Apostles, had a car accident on the way home from church last Sunday. He was able to walk away from the incident but his doctors are still trying to find underlying cause of his blackout. Please pray for his full and quick recovery and for wisdom for his doctors as they work with him towards renewed health.
James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,
so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.

+ NOMINATE YOURSELF – A NOTE FROM THE RT. REV. DANIEL G.P. GUTIÉRREZ
My siblings in Christ,
In my seven years as your Bishop, I continue to be amazed at the depth of talent, creativity and dedication in this beloved diocese. On October 22nd, we will gather as a diocese for our annual Convention. An important component of our work is to elect people to serve on a variety of committees and commissions. Collectively, they will help direct our administration, budget, mission and ministry both within our diocese and as part of the Episcopal Church.
I invite you to pray if God is calling you to serve in one of these important ministries. A list of open positions can be found here. Please consider nominating yourself – or someone else – to stand for election. It doesn’t matter if you are new to The Episcopal Church or were raised in it, all you need to do is complete this form. There is a need for your gifts and talents. The deadline is August 23rd . If you have any questions please email nomcomm@diopa.org.
Registration for Convention will also open on August 23rd. Resolutions that propose changes to diocesan canons or the Diocesan Constitution are due 90 days prior to Convention, or July 25th, and should be submitted to Stephen P. Chawaga, Esq., schwaga@episcopallegalaid.org.
Other resolutions are due 69 days prior to Convention, or August 23rd, and should be submitted to the chair of the Resolutions Committee, Karen Lash, klash.klash@verizon.net. The resolution form can be found here.
I am grateful for your faithfulness.
