LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES

A plan is underway for the construction of two Little Free Libraries – one to be placed on the church property and the other at the Darby Mission House. The one on our property will be available to the whole neighborhood, and from time to time we will remove some of the children’s books and deliver them to the Darby location for their use. The construction will be undertaken by Wyatt Delevan and some of his fellow scouts.

DARBY MISSION

Food Giveaways

For the April Giveaway we are collecting peanut butter, mustard and mayonnaise. These are for families, so we’re looking to avoid the industrial size containers. For peanut butter, think 16 oz jars; for mustard, 10-12 oz. and for mayonnaise 15-20 oz. You get the idea. The giveaway date for April has been moved up a week, to April 13 so that distribution can be made prior to Easter. So we ask that you please get your donations in no later than Tuesday, April 12.

Summer Camp Supplies

We are collecting Gimp! You know, that plastic material also known as lanyard string that you used at camp to make bracelets. It comes in all sorts of bright colors and we’re collecting it for summer camp projects.

Backpack Refresh

We are collecting pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, glue sticks and notebooks to replenish student backpacks. If you can help, please drop off your items no later than Sunday, April 17!

PROJECT SHARE

Lunches

We are looking for lunch makers for Monday or Tuesday for the week of April 11 and April 18. As you know, you can volunteer to help out with all, or any part, of the lunch process: main dish, sweet treat or coffee. See Cassie to off your assistance!

Our current drives:

  • Corks – we are collecting these for craft projects at Project Share and the Darby summer camps to build bird houses
  • Ponchos – now that we’re into Spring and heading for April showers and summer rains, we’re looking for 20-25 adult-sized ponchos for the clients of Project Share.

+ LENTEN STUDY 2022 – QUEST FOR THE HOLY GRAIL
See James’ note in the March Newsletter (in your mailbox and also linked on our website at HolyApostlesPA.org/quest) for complete details of this year’s study.

Part 2: The Well-Traveled Road: A practical, in-person walk-thru of the whys and hows of the Common Cup.

  • The first walk-through opportunity is scheduled for this Wednesday, March 30. Please meet in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm.
  • The second walk-through opportunity is scheduled for Sunday, April 10, following the 10AM service.

+ LENTEN RESOURCES
Visit HolyApostlesPA.org/Quest for links to online resources for study and reflection on the themes of Communion and the Blood of Christ. These resources will be gleaned from a variety of sources and viewpoints and with different audiences in mind, including children. New resources will be posted each Tuesday and Thursday in Lent.

+ FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
The next meeting of the Finance Committee is scheduled for this Monday, March 28 @ 7pm in the Memorial Room. All are welcome to attend. Judi Kraft, Accounting Warden and Finance Chair

+ APRIL NEWSLETTER MAILING
If you would like to help prepare the April newsletter mailing, meet us in the Memorial Room on Monday, March 28th at 10:30AM for folding, stuffing, stamping and laughter.

+ EASTER MEMORIAL FLOWERS
Easter is quickly approaching. It will be a glorious time of rejoicing, remembrance, and thanksgiving. This is true because we believe that those whom we love and see no longer will one day live again through the power and the light of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is what we celebrate at Easter.

To put earthly beauty in the service of our heavenly faith in Jesus, it is our custom at Holy Apostles to remember our deceased friends and family members with a beautiful array of Easter flowers. If you would like to participate in this custom, please send, or hand deliver the names of the deceased loved ones you would like to remember to the church office along with a donation. The suggested donation is $10.00 per name, but please do give only as you are able and so moved.

To participate:

  • You can send a check along with a list of those to be remembered to the church: 1020 Remington Rd, Wynnewood PA 19096
  • You can use the Give button on our website to make an electronic donation. The “To” list includes an option for Flower Memorials. If you choose this option, please email your list of those to be remembered to Patty Wertz (psw17@comcast.net ) or to the church office (holyapostlespa@gmail.com)

Deadline: Please have your requests to us no later than April 11.

+ ALTAR FLOWERS SCHEDULE OPENING
We have an opening on the altar flowers schedule for Sunday, June 26. The cost for sponsoring flowers is $45. If you would like to fill this spot for just 2022, or commit to the date for ongoing years, please contact Patty Wertz

+ VOLUNTEER SIGN UPS
We want to make volunteering at Church of the Holy Apostles as easy as possible. We have created a place to find all our volunteer openings in one place: https://tinyurl.com/chasignupgenius

There you can sign up for regular service areas such as Altar Guild, Chalice Bearer/Acolyte, Coffee Hour, Fellowship Events, Greeters, Livestream, Outreach Events, and Readers/Intercessors. Just choose the tab for the ministry of your choice. Click on over and check it out! Some pages are still being set up with all their slots, so check back often.

+ APOSTLE’S CUP COFFEE
Bags of Apostle’s Cup coffee continue to be available for purchase on Sundays and from the church office during regular church hours. Bags are $15 each and $4 of every purchase goes directly to the Darby Mission to support their efforts in the community.

In addition to purchasing coffee for your own use, you can purchase bags as donations for use at the Darby Mission meals or for Project Share.

+ AID FOR UKRAINE
Episcopal Relief & Development is collecting funds to provide humanitarian assistance to those fleeing the violence in Ukraine. Your gift will help provide cash, blankets, hygiene supplies and other needed assistance to refugees from Ukraine, as well as others affected by disasters, emergencies and humanitarian crises around the world.

+ SUNDAY BRUNCH CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT
Join us on Sunday, April 3 at 11:30am for a concert featuring Michael Poll, classical guitarist, & Emi Ferguson, flutist and Julliard professor. The concert is free but donations are strongly encouraged. Donations will be split between CHA Outreach initiatives and Michael’s non-profit for music education.

Help spread the word! Flyers for this concert will be available on the Coffee Hour table. Please take some and hang them up around the local neighborhoods in your daily travels. And “share” the announcements on Facebook when they appear on the church’s FB page.

+ VOCAL CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT
Make plans for your afternoon on Sunday, April 10 at 1PM to enjoy a presentation of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin (The Fair Maid of the Mill) featuring Daveed Buzaglo, Tenor and Nara Avetisyan, Pianist. This is a free concert. Donations will be taken to support CHA Outreach initiatives.

+ MASKS IN CHURCH BUILDING
While our Vestry has determined that the requirement for wearing a mask during indoor church services will be based on the Montgomery County positive test rate falling below 7.0%, masks must continue to be worn in the building whenever Little Friends Daycare is in session. Thank you for your understanding and care for the young children in our midst.
