 Worship

Please note that we are using the EOW version of the Nicene Creed on alternating Sundays.

No Evening Family Worship Evening Family Worship will be held on Sunday, June 10th. All children and their families are invited to attend the 10:00 a.m. service  with Sunday School, followed by the Sunday School Picnic.  (There will be Confirmation Class at 5:00 on June 10th.)

Children & Youth
Holy Apostles is working toward establishing a flourishing children’s choir program. Stay tuned for more details, and how you can get involved.

Confirmation Class will continue during the summer months on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 5PM, with the exception of August 12.  Class on that day is cancelled.

Sunday School classes (preschool – 2nd grade and 3rd – 8th grade) continue weekly through June 10th, but then do not meet again until September. On these last three Sundays, classes begin as usual at 10:00 a.m., the same time as the church service starts; children join their parents in the church in time for communion. The Sunday School Picnic will be held on June 10th following the 10:00 a.m. service.

Nursery Childcare is available during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service for children ages 3 and younger in the Godly Play Room.

The Sunday School is organizing a collection as a welcome for the Connect by Night shelter.  Please bring toiletries or socks and leave them in the box in the hallway outside the parish office.

Outreach and Service

Connect by Night: This program, in which area churches provide a sleep space for those in need, will be returning to Holy Apostles in July.  Chris Costello will be stepping down from leading the program for this summer.  If anyone is interested in helping to run the program, there are several leadership roles, including: program leader (organizes the schedule, serves as a contact with the program), weekly captain (shops and maintains lunch-making supplies for one week).  Everyone has the opportunity to participate by taking a night to make lunches and greet our guests, the schedule for that will be available starting this Sunday in Church. Please contact Joe Zorc (zorc@email.chop.edu) if you are interested.

In preparation for our Connect by Night guests in July, donations of the following items are needed:

Food Preparation:

bread, juice boxes, jelly, ham, cheese, pretzels (hard), sandwich bags, brown paper bags, and napkins

Toiletries:

deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, washcloths, shampoo

Please note: Due to peanut and tree nut allergies, all snacks need to be nut free.

Donations of non-perishable items may be put in the large plastic bins on the table across from the parish office.  Please contact Joe Zorc about donations of perishable food. Thank you!

Darby Mission:   The schedule for hosting Darby meals has been very well subscribed, and our next turn will be on Tuesday, October 2nd at 5pm.  Please put that date on your calendar.  Reverend Doris also runs a camp for the children during the summer.  We provided a lunch cookout for them last year and are targeting Tuesday, July 31st during the day as a time for that.  If you are available and interested in participating at Darby that day, please contact Joe Zorc.

Parish Life

Bishop Gutierrez will visit CHA on Sunday, December 9th for Confirmations, Receptions, and Reaffirmations. If you are interested in any of those rites, or would just like to know more talk to Fr. James.

Our parish administrative assistant, Margaret Helminska, will be on leave-of-absence beginning Tuesday, June 12th, returning Tuesday, July 31st. She and her husband will be living in Germany for those weeks due to a temporary assignment in his employment. Elliott Brown, a high school student at Friends’ Central whose family are parishioners here at Holy Apostles, will be assisting James in the office while Margaret is away.

Happy Hour: On the last Friday of the summer months, we gather at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn for fellowship and fun, weather permitting. Please bring food and drink to share.  For the next Happy Hour (June 29th), however, we will meet for Evening Prayer at 6:00 p.m., followed by Happy Hour.

CHA Goes to the Flea Market! On Sunday, June 24th, Holy Apostles will have tables at the Upper Darby Flea Market, held at Upper Darby High School. All donations are welcome! We are especially looking for furniture, small working appliance, hand and garden tools, bakeware, new linens and blankets, building toys, children’s books, sports equipment, jewelry, holiday décor, and vinyl records. There is a big box in the church hallway for donations, so please keep this project in mind as you are doing your spring cleaning.

RECYCLING! We now have a recycling bin (clearly marked as such) located next to the large trash receptacle outside the kitchen door. All recyclable paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum should be placed in this bin rather than in the trash.

If you visit the church during the week (and we hope you do!), please use the red double doors nearest the church offices.  Please take special care to lock doors behind you, and ensure that they latch properly.  Doors that are not locked or completely shut are a very serious safety concern for Little Friends Daycare.  Thank you!
