Worship

We are blessed to have two special guests coming to Holy Apostles this month! Today we welcome a special guest preacher and deacon, the Rev. Jon Musser.  Jon is a seminary classmate of Fr. James who currently serves in the office of Community Engagement at Virginia Theological Seminary and as transitional deacon at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Case MD.

Sunday, February 25 we will welcome a special guest preacher, Dr. Megan McKenna. Dr. McKenna is a prominent Biblical scholar, theologian, and Roman Catholic lay person. She is the author of a number of books. Dr. McKenna will be leading a diocesan clergy study day on Saturday, Feb. 24, and will be joining us for worship the following day.

Acolyte Training: Anyone in 3rd grade and older, including adults, is welcome to participate in an Acolyte Training Session on Sunday, Feb. 25th at 5:30 p.m.

Children & Youth

Confirmation class begins today, February 11th, at 5 p.m.  We will meet briefly before the normally scheduled Family Evening Worship.  Confirmation classes will be the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 5 p.m.  All children and youth 5th grade and up (at parent’s discretion) are welcome to attend, even those who are not seeking confirmation.

Nursery Childcare is available during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday service for children ages 3 and younger in the Godly Play Room.

Sunday School classes (preschool – 2nd grade and 3rd – 8th grade) are held routinely on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the same time as the church service starts; children join their parents in the church in time for communion. On 2nd Sundays children attend church with their parents, either the 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist service or the 5:30 p.m. Family Worship Service. When there is a 5th Sunday, children attend church with their parents, with some of the children taking part in leading the service.

Adult Education

Our Lenten Study Series will be held on Wednesday nights during Lent (no class on Ash Wednesday or the Wednesday of Holy Week, March 29th), starting at 6:30 p.m. Our theme will be “Varieties of Prayer.” A soup, salad, and bread supper will be provided. If you would like to help with food, look for a sign-up sheet in the parish hall.

Parish Life

February 13th is Shrove Tuesday. To celebrate, we will be having a pancakes & beer dinner. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Todd Delevan is providing a batch of home-brewed beer, and we will have non-alcoholic drinks as well. We will eat traditional Fat Tuesday fare of pancakes and sausages. There are two other important pieces of business: burning palms for Ash Wednesday ashes, and burying the Alleluia. All ages are invited!

There is now a door bell at the Parish Office entrance to the building. Please ring this if you do not have a key to enter
