The 23rd Sunday after Pentecost/Proper 27
November 12th, 2017
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Worship
Welcome to Church of the Holy Apostles! This Sunday’s service is Morning Prayer, Rite II. The Rev. James Stambaugh, our Deacon-in-Charge, will serve as Officiant and Preacher.
The Service Bulletin for this Sunday, Morning Prayer, lists the hymnal page numbers for all the congregational singing. The Hymnal 1982 is divided into two parts: Service Music in the first section and Hymns in the second section. Service music numbers have an S in front (e.g., Canticle: You are God/Te Deum Laudemus is S-283); hymn numbers do not. If you see an S with the number in the hymnal, you know to look in the front section of the hymnal.
Evening Family Worship will take place tonight, November 12th at 5:30 p.m. An informal meal will follow the service.
Morning Prayer: Tuesdays through Fridays in the church at 9:00 a.m.
Ordination to the Priesthood: On Saturday, December 9 at 4:00 p.m., our deacon-in-charge, James Stambaugh, will be ordained to the priesthood by the Rt. Rev. Daniel Gutiérrez. The special service will take place here at Holy Apostles. A reception will follow. An important part of the service is people to formally present James to the bishop. James would like to invite any and all members of CHA who want to be his presenters for the service. See BCP, pp. 526-7 for what this entails. Look for a sign-up sheet outside the church doors.

Parish Life
We are in the midst of our annual Stewardship Season, Celebrating God’s Good Gifts! This is a time when we reflect on and celebrate the gifts that God has given us, and consider how we can offer thanksgiving back to God. Our stewardship campaign will end this year on November 19th, Celebration Sunday. During that service we will collect the pledge card and afterwards have a celebratory brunch of thanksgiving. This is a catered affair, so RSVP to the parish office at holyapostlespa@gmail.com by Wednesday, Nov. 15th. So far only 5 families have sent a response, so please let us know if you will be attending.
Pancakes with Santa, December 2nd: Anyone who is interested in helping with this family event, please contact Drew Meiers (610) 446-8340 or dkmeiers@verizon.net. The time for this event is coming quickly, and in order for it to happen we need a core group of volunteers to organize and participate in Pancakes for Santa.
Turkey Trot: 5K Run or 1 Mile Walk 9:00 a.m. Thanksgiving, Nov. 23rd. (Meet in front of St. Faith Church, Havertown.) Come join the Smyth Family and express your thankfulness for good health and to raise money for the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The fee is $20 or $10 for participants under 12. This event is held each year in memory of Matt Smyth who passed away from Testicular Cancer at 23 and to remind men to check themselves. Make your donations payable to Abramson Cancer Center and in the memo put “The Matt Smyth Fund”.
New Committee: Family-Friendly Holy Apostles Interested in being part of a group to look at how we can make Holy Apostles more Family-Friendly to visitors of our church? A meeting will be held in November, date TBD. Contact Beth Johnson at 610-733-2055 or bethjohnson514@gmail.com.
Flower Memorials: Each week flowers are placed on the altar for the 10:00 Sunday service in memory of loved ones who have died or in thanksgiving for a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday. Cost for the donation of the flowers is $30. Altar Flower Memorials are open for May 13, July 8, Aug. 12, and Oct 21st. Flower memorials automatically renew annually unless you request otherwise. Please notify Patty Wertz of the Altar Guild if you would like to make a flower memorial donation.
Parish Directory: We are in the process of updating the parish directory. You should have received a letter requesting the needed information this past week by email, or by regular mail if you do not use email. Please respond by email or regular mail. As soon as the responses are received, we’ll be organizing and printing the new directory. Many thanks!
